Living with multiple sclerosis is like a box of chocolate. You never know how it will affect you the next minute, hour, or day. I refuse to let MS control my life...what about YOU.

You Have NO Choice
I am having second thought of getting my flu shot Tuesday, September 14. My initial reaction was NOT to take it once I was told that all influenza shots have H1N1 in it. I took the shot because I know Multiple Sclerosis weakens the immune system, making it so much easier for me to end up with "the flu". Multiple Sclerosis can actually set our bodies up to make getting "the flu" a much more dangerous situation.
I am having second thoughts about taking that flu shot with H1N1 in it because I have been experiencing the following flu symptoms: cough, headache, sore throat, runny nose, aching muscles, aching joints, weakness, and fatigue. In the beginning, I thought I was having an MS exacerbation because of the intensity of aching muscles, joints, weakness, and fatigue symptoms I live with everyday, but managed when those symptoms stay at a level 6...unfortunately they are at a 10, thankfully have medications to relieve the pain. I knew more was going on once my nose start running, my throat-became sore, and I started coughing. It clicked to me that I am trying to come down with the flu. I guess I can look on the bright side of things; I do not have a fever. If the symptoms that are not the same as my MS symptoms stay mild, I am hopeful I will bounce back soon.

I hope you feel better as well. My mother asked me if I plan to get the flu shot because I never did. however I am aware that with having MS, catching the flu would be out of control so I'm kind of on the fence with this too.
I like your new look. Black and all the various shades of brown are my favorite colors. :)
I didn't take the H1N1 last year, but I did take the usual, annual flu shot.
When H1N1 finally became available, I opted out--the crisis had ended suddenly.
I'm still vacillating as to whether I should take the flu shot at all this year--given that H1N1 is part of the mixture.
I hope you're feeling better soon; I'll remember you in my prayers.
Thanks SVR:
I did not use to take the flu shot, but on the advice of my doctors since I have been living with MS I start taking them.
This is the first time I felt bad after taking a flu shot. Personally, I think it was the H1N1component in the vaccination. Thank God I did not have the flu, I just experienced most of the symptoms this time after having my flu shot. I realize from this experience of having mild symptoms, had it been the flu I do not think my body could have taken handled it. Therefore, I no longer regret taking the flu vaccine this year with the H1N1 in it.
Thanks but no thanks Jane, I do not review foreign sites.
BD,
I refused the H1N1 last year too, but did take the regular flu shot. Unfortunately, this year no one have a choice because it is in the mixture.
Many people are going to refuse the flu shot this year because of the H1N1 being in the mixture, my Mom is one of them. I pray we do not have another flu epidemic because people are going to refuse the vaccine this year.

I pray that you will have a speedy recovery.
Yesterday, I went and got my flu shot. My shoulder is still sore from it too. There are a lot of people coming down with some type of virus out this way. I pray that I don't catch it because a common cold hospitalizes me, which is rare because the majority of people can shake a common cold off with a few days of rest and lots of liquids. This is not so in my case. You would think I had pneumonia the way a common cold does me.
I got a flu shot last month and I felt the symptoms for the next week. I'm hopeful that because of that, I won't suffer later.
Time will tell I suppose.
Reggie,
I hope the flu shot does not do you like it did me. My hubby took it a week ago and he has been feeling pretty bad the last several days. Whatever is in the H1N1 ingredients in this year flu shot is not good for most people :(
